Domestic Solar Panel Installation in Cheshire & North Wales

Generate your own electricity. Cut your bills.
Backed by over a decade of local expertise.
If you're a homeowner in Cheshire, North Wales, or the wider North West, there has never been a better time to go solar. Electricity prices remain high, solar technology is more efficient than ever, and installations currently benefit from zero-rated VAT — saving you hundreds on the upfront cost.
At Solartech Installations, we design and install bespoke domestic solar PV systems built around your home, your roof, and your energy needs. From initial survey to switch-on, we handle everything.

How Domestic Solar Panels Work

Solar photovoltaic (PV) panels convert daylight into usable electricity — and they work even on overcast days, which matters a great deal in the North West.
Here's what happens from sunlight to socket:
Solar panels on your roof capture daylight and generate DC electricity
An inverter converts that into AC current your home appliances can use
A generation meter monitors how much electricity your system is producing
Any surplus energy you don't use can be stored in a battery or exported to the grid — and you can earn money for it through the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG)
The result: lower energy bills, greater independence from the grid, and a measurably greener home.

Bespoke System Design — Built Around Your Home

No two homes are the same, which is why every Solartech installation starts with a thorough survey. We assess your roof, your energy usage, and your property to design a system that genuinely delivers — not an off-the-shelf solution that's been fitted to hundreds of other houses.
Panels can be roof-mounted and integrated on existing properties or new builds. Most systems connect to the National Grid, but we also design standalone off-grid systems where required.
We work with leading manufacturers including JA Solar, Canadian Solar, and Risen — selected for proven performance, reliability, and efficiency in UK conditions. Our aim on every survey is to maximise your generation output and get the strongest return on your investment.

What About Shading?

Shading from chimneys, trees, or neighbouring buildings is one of the most common concerns homeowners raise — and it's something we deal with every day.
Where shading is an issue, we install TIGO optimisers on the affected panels. These allow each panel to operate independently, so partial shading on one panel doesn't reduce the output of your entire array. It's a straightforward addition that can make a significant difference to your annual generation figures.

Add Battery Storage & Maximise Your Savings

Solar panels generate the most electricity during daylight hours — but that's often not when your household is using the most power. Pair your solar PV system with a battery storage system and you can store what you generate during the day to use in the evenings, dramatically reducing what you draw from the grid.
During winter months when solar generation is lower, you can also force-charge your battery overnight at cheaper off-peak energy rates — keeping your savings working year-round.

Zero VAT on Solar Installations

The UK government currently applies a zero rate of VAT to solar panel installations, confirmed until March 2027. This represents a meaningful saving on the cost of your system — and is one more reason not to delay.

Solar Panel Maintenance

One of the great advantages of solar PV is how little maintenance it requires. In most cases, rainfall does the cleaning work for you — panels tilted at 15° or more stay clean naturally. You'll just want to make sure trees don't begin to overshadow the array over time.
A useful thing to know: your generation meter has a small red light that should flash 1,000 times per kWh generated. If that light is solid red and not flashing during daylight hours, it's usually a sign that your inverter needs attention. If you spot this, give us a call.
For total peace of mind, we offer a yearly maintenance contract to keep your system performing at its best.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do solar panels work on cloudy days?

Yes. PV panels generate electricity from daylight, not direct sunlight. Output is lower on heavily overcast days, but a properly sized system accounts for typical UK weather.

How long does installation take?

Most domestic installations are completed within one to two days.

Is my roof suitable?

Most roofs are suitable. South-facing is ideal, but we regularly install on east and west-facing roofs too. We'll give you an honest assessment during your free survey.

How much could I save?

This depends on system size, your energy usage, and whether you add battery storage. We'll give you a realistic projection during your survey — based on your actual property, not industry averages.

What's the payback period?

On average, around 7 years — after which your system continues generating savings for its full lifespan.
