Solartech Installations is a partnership company founded by Gareth Gill and John Ryder, based across Cheshire and North Wales. Between us, we've been working in renewable energy since 2003, long before solar panels became a household name in the UK.

We're a small company, and we're proud of it. That means you get to meet the people installing your system, speak to someone who actually knows your job when you call, and deal with a business that cares about its reputation because we've spent over two decades building it.

Where We Started

Our story doesn't begin in a Cheshire office. In 2003, Gareth set up in Spain, spending three years immersed in the renewable energy industry at a time when solar PV was still emerging technology. At that time John was starting to get into Solar PV by doing the Solar PV City and Guilds course which was very new at the time. He even had an article written about him which you can read here!

That period gave us something that can't be shortcutted: deep, hands-on expertise in solar photovoltaics, solar thermal systems and wind turbines, built from the ground up in a market where solar was already mainstream.

Returning to the UK, we were contracted to solar companies across the Cheshire area and worked with Wrexham County Borough Council, building a local reputation before establishing Solartech Installations Ltd in 2012.

Over a decade later, we're still here — still doing the surveys ourselves, still on the tools, and still answering the phone when customers call.

Our Approach

We don't employ salespeople. When you ask us for a quote, one of us comes to your property, carries out a proper survey, and gives you an honest assessment of what a system will realistically deliver — including the bits that aren't always flattering.

We'll show you where the panels will go, where the cables will run, where the inverter and battery will be sited, and answer every question you have before you commit to anything. There's no pressure, no time-limited discounts, and no one sitting in your living room until you sign something.

Many of our customers come to us through recommendations from people we've already installed for. That's the way we prefer it — and it's only possible if we do the job properly every time.

In an industry that attracts its share of inexperienced and poorly qualified operators, accreditation matters. Here's what we hold and what it means for you:

MCS Accredited

The Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) is the industry-standard quality mark for renewable energy installers in the UK. MCS accreditation is a requirement to access the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) — the government scheme that pays you for surplus electricity exported to the grid. Our MCS accreditation number is NAP 52561.

We became a Which? Trusted Trader in 2014 after going through a rigorous independent assessment of our business practices, previous installations, and customer service. It's one of the most recognised consumer trust marks in the UK, and we're proud to hold it.

RECC Member

As members of the Renewable Energy Consumer Code (RECC), we're committed to high standards in how we sell and deliver our services. The RECC code protects customers throughout the process — from the initial sales visit right through to after-sales support. Our RECC registration number is 50515.
